Kwara Warns Gari Processing Industries Against Unhygienic Practices

Kwara State Government has warned gari processing industries in the state against unwholesome and unhygienic practices.

Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Sheu Usman dropped the cautionary note when he visited Alabson Gari processing industries at Agbabiaka, Ilorin South local government of the state.

Mallam Usman therefore cautioned the industries against violating environmental laws or risk sanctions.

The commissioner was on an official inspection of the Gari processing company based on the complaint of a neighbour on the odour and adverse effects of cassava emission from the industries.

He said that “the present administration encourages small-scale industries for economic development and availability of food for the masses but discourages anything that will hurt the healthy living of Kwarans, that environmental hygiene should be taken into consideration.”

The commissioner accordingly directed the Director of the Environment in the ministry Abayomi Idowu to make sure that all necessary observations were done within a month in conformity with the environmental laws in the state.

Usman hailed the Omolere Association of Gari Processing Women on their support for the current government in the state.

He restated the administration’s continued support for women in their various businesses to boost their standard of living and the economic development of the state.

The commissioner did not hide his angst against residents of the Olulande community in Ilorin metropolis against refuse disposal.
