Communique Issued At The End Of The First Kwara North Youth Unity Summit

1. The August gathering, which turned out hugely successful witnessed the presence of young people from across the five local governments of Kwara North, traditional leaders, political stakeholders from across divides, community development organizations, Kwara North indigenous business persons, academia among others.   2. The fact that the Governorship of Kwara state has eluded the Kwara North Senatorial District was reaffirmed. However, it was identified that the elusion thus far, was not because of the political disability of the senatorial district or its people, but because the dynamics of political permutations in the State have been unfavorable to Kwara North. Hence, the need to come together and forge a common front in pursuit of a greater political future for the district.

3. The summit also unanimously agreed that Kwara North desires and deserves Governorship of Kwara state come 2027, after so many years of demonstrating understanding and camaraderie with other senatorial districts to produce Kwara state Governors. It was noted that Kwara North is a unique senatorial district, that has demonstrated understanding among its people, despite the ethnic plurality and only needs to solidify its unity, consolidate and seek brotherly support from Kwara Central and Southern senatorial districts respectively, to achieve the possible and doable mission of realizing Kwara North Governorship come 2027.   4. Issues relating to the infrastructural and human capital development of Kwara North were also raised, with commendations of past and present governments for the strides they have been able to make in this regard. However, the Senatorial district still remains with the highest developmental deficit in the state, across sectors.   5. It was unanimously approved that at this moment, for all Kwara Northerners, Kwara North is our political party and as far as Kwara 2027 guber is concerned, Kwara North indigenes across political divides are urged to elect Kwara North first, and continue to push for a Kwara Northerners to get ticket of major political parties.   6. It was noted that the herculean tasks ahead will not come without daunting challenges, as power is not served a la carte. While the contest is open to every qualified persons within Nigeria’s constitutional contest, Kwara Northerners, are however urged to pursue these novel political interests with diplomacy, devoid of personality attack. Interested qualified Kwara northerners are urged to participate in the process without compromising unity and development of the district.   7. The place of Moro in Kwara North senatorial district is affirmed as equal to every other part of Kwara North, the need for equity and fairness at Kwara North’s micro level was advocated and encouraged to be pursued with all sense of sincerity.  8. While the support of our dear brothers of good intent and purposes from Kwara Central and Southern Senatorial districts, across political divides are acknowledged and greatly appreciated, it was noted with dismay, the despicable efforts of some unprogressive vested interests that are posturing as clogs in the wheel of this noble course. Some of these people even went to the extent of blackmailing some political leaders from Kwara North for their support for the power shift advocacy. However, it was concluded that Kwara North is under no illusion that we can do it alone, just like every other senatorial district can’t. We therefore resolved, to continue to persevere, appeal to, lobby and mobilize support from major stakeholders, understanding that nothing good comes easy.   9. The summit concluded that the Kwara North gubernatorial bid is doable and there is no better time to pursue the noble course than now . Youths from across major political parties from the five local governments of Kwara North publicly affirm their unequivocal support for this project and determination to work together with our brothers in the other senatorial districts to make this agenda that promises reordering of Kwara politics for greater inclusivity, fairness and equality.
